A painter, printmaker and mixed media artist, Itala first studied art at the university of Venice, Italy. In Venice she discovered that carta pesta and fresco look that is so much a part of all her work, figurative and abstract. The colors of Veronese, Tiepolo, and the late great Italian master Santomaso are at the core of her work. She has had many solo and group shows, and she is featured in the 1998 book The Chicago Art Scene. She is also featured in Volume 1, Book 2 of the 2004 publication: American Art Collector.
I have been a painter since the age of six. In the beginning my work was about melancholic landscapes and dried-out flowers. In time I eliminated every realistic detail and instead searched for a kind of abstract evanescence.
Lately I started a new body of work that I call Geometric Lyricism. I use acrylic paint on canvas with hand-made paper for texture and transparency. I have also started to write poems that stand by my new work and sometimes stand in for it. Sometimes I put the text on the painting and it becomes part of its texture.
I also like to do some vague realistic work of exotic flowers and some abstract rendering of the city I come from, where I started my artistic career: VENEZIA the Serenissima, the queen of the Italian Adriatic Sea.
